Animals Like Us
Last Sunday's cool, blue, sun-shafted afternoon,
Our interweaving fingers kissing our smiles' lips,
We traipsed, embracing our gracefulness,
In plain view of every resident of the zoo,
The two of us one species — uncommon lovers —
On display, no matter that we were uncaged,
Free to roam in and out of the breeze,
The envy of every creature capturing us, in its gaze,
We, unendangered strangers,
Come to show them what animals can do
When primal passion tames innate animality.
