Dream Sharer
Awakening beside you, from sleep's amorphous vapors,
As I have for the last eight late a.m.'s,
Arouses me to the heat of your breath's nearness.
For so many years, give or take a decade or two,
I've known only aloneness as a dream sharer,
She the only one to welcome me home,
Invite me to take refuge from the cold,
Embrace my numb, dislocated soul, as her old bedfellow,
Show me unconditional affection.
Why, after all those nights of desolate restiveness,
Drifting like a tattered feather in a netherverse,
I've discovered such acceptance is destiny's guess.
Just now, you stir, turn, open your eyes,
And summon a smile that beckons my dry lips
To taste the fragrance of your dreams' nakedness.
