Pure, Clear Harmony and Peace
Rising from the lake's mud beds
That edge Seiwa-en's hasuike,
Below a grove of Japanese cherry trees,
Giant green lotus leaves sway in the breeze,
The sacred plants waiting, patiently,
For their beautiful blooms
To compose white haikus to their purity.
Meanwhile, on the hill just above,
Below the grove of cherry trees,
A drab-brown mallard, maternally patient,
Oversees her three downy feeding ducklings.
She knows, like the lotus plants,
The meaning of nature's ageless flowering —
Peaceful oneness underlying life's abundance.
