Turkey Sandwich
For seven decades, from birth until this precise moment —
Forever, possibly —
It seems conceivable that my cranial hemispheres
Have contained not only every element of my human doing,
Each single particle of my time's entirety,
But that of all time, from eternity to eternity.
More provocative is the prospect that all time is one time,
Indivisible from its constituent elements,
And that every thought I have is complicit and coincidental
With every other thought I've ever generated,
Coexistent and simultaneous with everything that's been, is,
And will be energized by time's fluid alchemy.
Yesterday, my daughter brought her dog to my office,
To keep her company, while she did her work.
Though her pet hadn't been there in at least two years,
It grew animated, jumped up and down, barked,
When I returned from lunch, opened the door.
It was craving the same turkey sandwich I brought it last time.
