Sharing
We bought the DVD almost three weeks ago,
On a detour we were forced to make, in Superior,
When, on our way to view two movies, in Duluth,
We learned that the city had been deluged, flash-flooded,
By the same three straight days of storms
Which, happily, didn't keep us cabin-bound in Lake Nebagamon,
Where we lavished love on each other,
Outside of time's reach,
While sharing it with the simple intricacies of nature's intimacy.
But so committed, devoted, attentive to our togetherness
Were we kindred breezes of our North Woods retreat,
Enchanted by the agelessness we named Linda and L.D.,
That we never found the moments to watch the movie.
Now, sitting in Sunday evening's den,
We're high-schoolers going steady, hugging on your sofa,
Weeping, as the closing scene of The Notebook coalesces,
Having shared our lives, with Allie and Noah —
Our love, like theirs, undying.
