New and Known
A second city by the lake, in the same day — Milwaukee.
Having a colossal body of water for a backyard
Compels us, as it did in Chicago,
To rethink our notions of home,
Consider settling on Wisconsin Avenue,
Changing our permanent addresses permanently,
To reflect our residence in the opulent 1893 Pfister Hotel,
Spend every waking moment of our sleeping and dreaming
Conceiving a way of returning to the nineteenth century,
As young and vibrant and loving as we are today,
Meeting ourselves, on May 23, 2011,
You and I having just driven in, from the Windy City,
Eager to explore a shoreline new and known to the two of us —
Four souls who will always be new to each other.
