Life Dance
It's as simple as this, Mrs. Green.
This full-moon Tuesday evening, I miss you,
Wish I could be kissing you,
While, naked, we sway to Chris Botti's trumpet,
Or whispering, in your warm ear,
Lyrics of the Carpenters' "We've Only Just Begun."
But I'm not.
You're in Florida; I'm at home,
Listening to Karen sing a mellow "Ticket to Ride,"
Chris smoothly finger the valves of his music,
Sculpting the air into "No Ordinary Love"
And "Someone to Watch Over Me."
But now, with the suddenness of your absence,
I'm overwhelmed by this simple thought:
Linda, dear loving Linda,
Your nearness to my aloneness, tonight,
Revitalizes my once-youthful light,
Illuminates my spirit, haloes my old soul,
Invites me to experience, again,
The excitement, the freshness love possesses
When two passionate beings
Contain all their todays in a single embrace,
Choreograph them into a kiss
Lifting off the lips of their rapture —
The essence of their timebound desire
To connect, beyond forever,
In a life dance of timeless togetherness.
