A Likeness
What a joy of undiminishing measure,
To spend Earth Day with my boy, Troika,
My son of almost thirty-one years,
That kid who, during his parents' divorce,
Disappeared into his psyche's refuge,
To keep from losing himself completely —
And, at his behest, no less,
His invitation to progress a relationship
He abandoned, on reaching ten or eleven.
Without excavating pieces of the past,
From the vast scrap heap
Of our family's failure and dissolution,
We recreated a likeness of what might exist,
Had our scourge not occurred,
By initiating rapprochement...
An Earth Day the two of us shared,
Concluding with hugs, kisses on the cheek,
Unspoken promises to repair our broken world.
